I view treatment as a collaborative venture in which emotional distress is increasingly captured in words rather than in symptoms and problematic patterns.
Individual Therapy
Engaging in psychotherapy is an attempt to alter patterns and make changes. Sometimes this comes out of painful circumstances, sometimes because those around us hurt, and sometimes our own distress reaches difficult places. In these times, we look for a place to regain our bearings. Psychotherapy is a way of changing the relationship with yourself and with others in a way that seeks to move you forward in life. I have over 15 years of experience providing care and I specialize in treating relational issues, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, trauma and dissociation.
Family & Couples
The German philosopher, Schopenhauer, describes a view of human relationships through a parable about porcupines. It goes like this: the animals want to move closer to each other for warmth, companionship, and connection through closeness. In the process, they inevitably poke and injure one another with their quills. In order to navigate this challenging conundrum, they move back and forth searching for the degree of proximity and space that allows for their mutual need for connection and safety. Couples therapy treads similar ground. In our work together, my intention is to help you navigate these sensitive areas, finding new ways to respond to one another.
